"la Caixa" Foundation has a longstanding commitment to culture in general and the visual arts in particular. Over recent decades it has supported a large number of cultural programmes designed to offer a platform and provide professional opportunities to artists, curators and other players in the art world.

In addition to its existing call for curatorial projects, in 2018 "la Caixa" Foundation created a new call for projects to produce visual artwork. A second edition has been launched in 2020. The call for projects is aimed at all artists interested in producing a piece that has already been lined up to be presented in a specific context, as part of an exhibition or any other arranged project. ”la Caixa” will provide the necessary resources to create the piece in question and will oversee production but will not be involved in exhibiting the finished work.

The call for projects to produce artwork is open to artists of any age with Spanish or Portuguese nationality or residency, although preference will be given to emerging artists aged under 30. The programme will provide the necessary resources to create a work of art that has already secured a means of exhibition but which lacks the financial and professional resources at the production stage. This initiative aims to become a benchmark programme on the Iberian Peninsula, although the finished works may be exhibited in any Spanish, Portuguese or international artistic context, provided that the artwork production details are clearly stated.
